In a somewhat unexpected night (like always), the Emmy awards came and went, and some of the winners came out of left field! There were no true moments that made this year stand out, but at least Neil Patrick Harris made a great job at a normal hosting job.
And the winners for the major categories are:
Best Drama: MAD MEN
Best Comedy: 30 ROCK
Drama Actor: BRYAN CRANSTON – BREAKING BAD
Drama Actress: GLENN CLOSE – DAMAGES
Comedy Actor: ALEC BALDWIN – 30 ROCK
Comedy Actress: TONI COLETTE – UNITED STATES OF TARA
Drama Supporting Actor: MICHAEL EMERSON – LOST
Drama Supporting Actress: CHERRY JONES – 24
Comedy Supporting Actor: JON CRYER – TWO AND A HALF MEN
Comedy Supporting Actress: KRISTIN CHENOWETH – PUSHING DAISIES
Reality Host: JEFF PROBST – SURVIVOR
Reality Competition Series: THE AMAZING RACE
The true surprises were Kristin Chenoweth winning for Pushing Daisies, and there were 3 big upsets, Jon Cryer over host Neil Patrick Harris (which became a running gag on the show), Cherry Jones winning (she was nowhere near the top of anyone’s list), and Toni Colette over Tina Fey.
Better luck next year, and Big Bang Theory was robbed!
So it’s a mere 2 days before the 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards. The votes are in, the tally is done, we’re just waiting for the announcements on Sunday night. (LIVE updates will come on Sunday starting at 8pm EDT, so be prepared)
Ok, so these are the Emmys, and tradition says that the winners will either be predictable or out of left field, not necessarily non-deserving. Here are my picks for the major awards, and who I think will actually get their trophy (after the jump):
ABC has made available the first 18 minutes of their upcoming Sci-Fi/Mind-twisting new drama FlashForward online.
If you’re in the U.S., watch it NOW:
FlashForward follows a group of people who, along with the rest of the world, experienced a black-out in which they all had a glimpse into their future, so now it’s up to them how they confront their lives knowing what will happen and in some cases try to change their destiny. The show makes its debut on ABC next Thursday, September 24, at 8 pm.
As was expected, after the announcement of Tron Legacy‘s release date on December 17, 2010, The Smurfs movie is the first to say adios to their scheduled release.
Sony has announced that they are moving the new Smurfs movie to Summer 2011, tentatively July 29, 2011. This was an expected move on their part, since they would’ve had stiff competition at the original date with Tron Legacy, Green Hornet and a Yogi Bear movie all in the works for that same day.
The VMA‘s had to make an impact, yet again. 2009 was no exception, with numerous jaw-dropping moments. But the biggest one wasn’t even the big Michael Jackson tribute at the start, but Kanye West being the biggest jerk in the world, yet again. In an even lower low for him, when Taylor Swift walked up to accept her award for Best Female Video, he goes on stage, grabs her mic, and tells the world that Beyonce had one of the best videos ever, essentially robbing Taylor from her winning moment. This was the very first award presented in the night!
MTV surely didn’t know what to do that they cut off the mic and had to restart their next video gag 3 times! Later on the show, when Beyonce actually won, she asked Taylor to go up and have her moment back.
In what I’m sure is the news EVERYBODY will be reporting today, Ellen DeGeneres has announced via her syndicated talk show that she will be Paula Abdul‘s replacement as permanent judge on American Idol this upcoming season.
About a month ago, Paula Abdul announced via her twitter account that she did not reach a deal with Idol producers to come back for the show’s 9th season, a reportedly $5 million a year contract. The show then went to a gimmick of having guest judges fill in for Abdul during the current tapings of the auditions, which include Victoria Beckham, Avril Lavigne, Neil Patrick Harris, Nick Jonas, and Katy Perry among others. FOX had gone on record that they would go out and get a new permanent judge for when the season’s semi-finals and finals actually start, circa March 2010.
DeGeneres said she has known for weeks now that she would potentially be the new judge, but it wasn’t until yesterday she got the final okay to announce it. The Ellen Show episode with the announcement was filmed yesterday and will air today in syndication.
It is not known when she’ll first start appearing on the show, but it could be when the Hollywood round begins and beyond.
As The Beatles make their triumphant return with the digitally remastered collection and a full-blown Rock Band special edition video game, Apple also wants to Rock On!
We’ll be following their press conference today live at 10 am PDT/1 pm EDT. With up to the minute news on the newest offerings from the Mac maker regarding music.
So I don’t know if it’s fake or an awesome marketing campaign.
A friend mentioned on twitter something about how following @sheldoncooper made her happy. I went in and lo and behold, all the characters from The Big Bang Theory have twitters accounts, and they bash each other and mention things as if they’re in character in-between seasons, i.e. Penny mentions how she misses the guys, especially Leonard.
I’m gonna follow them and see what goes on in the fake Big Bang twitter world, and keep you posted! But if you want to follow them yourself you can find them at: @sheldoncooper, @leonardhofstadt, @wolowizard, @TheRaj, and @PennyIn4B.
While surfing the net I found these awesome Disney characters in the Marvel Universe mock-ups. They look great! And I for one would love to see this actually implemented, at least in some form of publicity stunt if that.
The images come from screencrave.com where they have the best they’ve found, including Snow White with the X-Men, the 7 dwarfs terrorizing Spawn, Wall-E with live-action Spider-Man, and Mickey dressed as Spider-Man, Donald Duck as Captain America & Goofy as Thor.
I have to say that as with the screencrave blogger, my personal favorite is Mickey as Wolverine, which is why I featured that one here. Giving the iconic happy mouse the bad-ass look kinda makes him seem way cooler.
Walt Disney Pictures has set the date for Tron Legacy to debut in screens in the U.S.
December 17, 2010 is officially the day we’ll get to see Tron Legacy. As of now, it pits it against several high-profile movies, which include The Green Hornet, The Smurfs and Yogi Bear.
Probably sometime soon there will be an announcement from at least one of those three films saying they’ll move their release date, since Tron Legacy could very well hit the same target audience for all of them, especially Green Hornet.
