As The Beatles make their triumphant return with the digitally remastered collection and a full-blown Rock Band special edition video game, Apple also wants to Rock On!
We’ll be following their press conference today live at 10 am PDT/1 pm EDT. With up to the minute news on the newest offerings from the Mac maker regarding music.
So I don’t know if it’s fake or an awesome marketing campaign.
A friend mentioned on twitter something about how following @sheldoncooper made her happy. I went in and lo and behold, all the characters from The Big Bang Theory have twitters accounts, and they bash each other and mention things as if they’re in character in-between seasons, i.e. Penny mentions how she misses the guys, especially Leonard.
I’m gonna follow them and see what goes on in the fake Big Bang twitter world, and keep you posted! But if you want to follow them yourself you can find them at: @sheldoncooper, @leonardhofstadt, @wolowizard, @TheRaj, and @PennyIn4B.
While surfing the net I found these awesome Disney characters in the Marvel Universe mock-ups. They look great! And I for one would love to see this actually implemented, at least in some form of publicity stunt if that.
The images come from screencrave.com where they have the best they’ve found, including Snow White with the X-Men, the 7 dwarfs terrorizing Spawn, Wall-E with live-action Spider-Man, and Mickey dressed as Spider-Man, Donald Duck as Captain America & Goofy as Thor.
I have to say that as with the screencrave blogger, my personal favorite is Mickey as Wolverine, which is why I featured that one here. Giving the iconic happy mouse the bad-ass look kinda makes him seem way cooler.
In a surprise move, Walt Disney Co. has bought Marvel Enterprises. With this news coming out today, you can expect Marvel comics characters to start appearing all over Disney media soon.
This at first looks like a very smart, though weird, move for Disney. Since they have a huge market for girls already in place with franchises like the Princesses and for tweens with Hannah Montana, the Jonas Brothers and the like, but essentially no market geared towards boys. Now with all the comic heroes they can get with the Marvel merger, they can attract little boys and teenagers to the new Disney world, which will include the addition of the characters to the various Disney theme parks around the world, their television channels like ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and many more.
The deals Marvel had with other studios for their movie franchises will keep intact, at least until those contracts end. So the X-Men will still be released under 2oth Century Fox, Iron Man through Paramount, and Spider Man by Sony Pictures. So Disney will be in a partnership with 3 big rivals very soon.
So now you’ll probably see Cinderella hooking up with Iron Man on your next visit to Disneyland!
It is official. Apple has announced their annual September music event, “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it“. Invitations have been sent to tech and media representatives for the invitation-only event, to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The event, which is expected to be fully music related is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. PDT on Wednesday September 9.
Expected to be announced this year are refreshes to the entire iPod lineup, which include a significant upgrade to the iPod Touch, to bring it up to par with many of the newest features the iPhone has, including a built-in 3.2 megapixel camera and mic. Also expected are upgrades to the Nano, with the addition of a camera too, but no big changes in form-factor. iTunes is likely to get a version upgrade to iTunes 9, with several new features that have been rumored to come, like social-media integration, blu-ray support, App organization, new full-album content features from the iTunes Store codenamed “Cocktail”, and probably the addition of the entire Beatles catalog to the iTunes Store.
We’ll be updating live the news that come from the event next week.
On what would be his 51st birthday, Michael Jackson was honored at Mexico City’s Revolution monument with a Guinness World Record breaking dance of his iconic “Thriller“.
Over 13,000+ people danced in unison his famous video’s choreography, with over 50,000+ spectators being witnesses to the great spectacle.
I was there, and have my full account of the event over on my personal blog, Where Is My Mind?, go check it out to read my experience there, view pictures and watch the video of the record-breaking moment.
So it’s August 28th. After more than a year of teasing, Apple has released Snow Leopard, their newest version of the Mac OS. But that’s not the only thing making the news around the world.
The main thing today is Mac OS X 10.6. Snow Leopard is a complete overhaul of an already great operating system. Thanks to it the Mac has been more prominent and accepted in the computer industry in the past 2 years than ever before. While the rest of the world is in a recession, Apple keeps selling and selling those expensive Macs. They have the iPhone to thank, too, though. This little cat went on sale today all over the world, and at just $29 USD it’s a true bargain, especially when reports have surfaced that you can actually buy that “Leopard-only upgrade” special priced disc and use it to upgrade from Tiger (OS X 10.4) or do a clean install of the system. It’s a true bargain!
CBS is becoming the first one to use the new technology that puts video inside magazines.
In a promotion for their upcoming Fall TV lineup, the CBS Network has put a video ad for The Big Bang Theory inside an entertainment magazine, in a move to promote the network more by news of them using of this technology than by the actual ad itself.
This surely cost a LOT to make, and probably works in the same way as that famed Esquire Magazine e-ink cover that featured that very first video cover, which used just powered leds to display moving text. This time it’s actual video of the cast of Big Bang greeting the readers with a quip of the new technology being used in the advertisement. So as this is more implemented and becomes cheaper to produce, be on the lookout for movie trailers, tv show promos and annoying noxema ads on your future magazine purchases.
Harmonix & MTV Games have announced the “almost-full” set list for the upcoming “The Beatles: Rock Band” video game, which will be released on September 9, the same day The Beatles‘ completely remastered discography comes out. Only one song is yet to be announced of the 45 that will come included in the game.
It is also being rumored that finally, after 6 years, that all of The Beatles’ catalog will be available on the iTunes Store, since Apple will have their annual music-related event on the same day, a Wednesday, when they normally have those events on Tuesdays. This has been a rumor every time Apple has a music announcement, but this time it truly coincides with all-things Beatles.
The video game will be like the previous Rock Band games, where you can play with up to 4 players the guitar, bass, drums and sing, with each player being able to play as John, Paul, George or Ringo. The game play has also been announced, in which you play to earn pictures and additional music from the band, and as you advance, you unlock certain new features and venues where you play, ending at the roof top of Abbey Road Studios, where the band famously had their last public performance together as a group. This will also mark the first time that you can plug in up to 3 mics and have 3 players sing in tandem at the same time for various songs that have multiple vocalists.
After months of speculation, SONY has officially announced that they will release on September 1st the eagerly anticipated PlayStation 3 Slim version, which will come with a 120GB hard drive, blu-ray player, and sell for $299.99 in the US.
The announcement was made at Gamescom in Germany today, after the online stores for Sears and KMart anticipatedly posted the device on their websites for pre-sale this morning, then removing it soon afterwards. The PS3 Slim will go on pre-sale this Monday, August 24.
UPDATE: The previous version will go down to $299.99 also, but at only 80GB, Sony will make new purchases go to the new Slim based mostly on storage space, not price and coolness. Also, they will reveal soon a new logo for the console and the name has officially changed from “PLAYSTATION 3” to “PlayStation 3“.
NOTE: The featured picture in this post is now the official image of the new device.
